Occular Migrane Symptoms and Remedies

Eye or ocular migrane is defined by visual disturbances rather than having one side of the head hurting. Other designations for this form of migraine are silent migraine, acephalgic migraine, ophthalmoplegic migraine, and optical migraine.

Occular migrane spells are rare and have been mistakenly presumed to engender the deterioration of the muscles around the single eye affected by the migrane attacks.

Since  ocular eye migranes are activated by constriction of blood vessels around the brain that controls the visual cortex of the person’s brain. Ocular migrane visual intereference symptoms only trouble one eye.

The visual symptoms are theorized to originate from the irritation induced by migraine activators (such as allergens) in the blood vessels in the brain connected to the person’s eyesight.

The following disruptions in eyesight take place while an occular migraine spell is progressing: shimmers of lights, spot blindness in the central vision, scintillating colored patterns, and visual snows. The person suffering from occular migraine can lose his vision totally. But, this symptomatic blindness only persists for about 5 minutes to less than an hour.

This disease is derived from a person’s bloodline and has been discovered to affect more females (especially during their menstrual period) and people under forty. These subsequent health ailments also make people at risk for  ocular migranes: depression, epilepsy, sickle cell, anemia, leprosy, aneurysms, nerve palsy and diabetes.

A number of ocular migraine patients have benefitted from a decrease in migraine spells and obtained some relief from alternative herbal treatments and the incorporation of yoga in their life.
